It all started with a tiny shop on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice, California called Luxe. In 1998 and Michele Sommerlath, a French art and antiques dealer for over thirty years fell in love with Venice, California and moved from Paris to open her shop. A few years later Luxe came to an end and she opened French 50’s 60’s in a larger space. At this point, mid-century modern architecture and design already had an enthusiastic following in and around Los Angeles and she knew the eclectic community of creatives in Venice would respond to her collection of mid-century gems from Europe.

Over the years, the interest and excitement has grown and she now owns two spaces and a warehouse. In Culver City’s thriving neighborhood of design showrooms and art galleries, Galerie Sommerlath and Michele Sommerlath Mid - Century sit directly next door to one another and exhibit the major collection of European and American mid-century furniture, art, lighting and other collectables. The warehouse, Le Depot, which is only open on Saturdays or by appointment, is located on the outskirts of Culver City. Along with the store locations, a large web site that is consistently updated showcases her current collection.

Designers, dealers, collectors and mid-century buffs alike are all part of the growing client base.  The unusual and often celebrated collection of furniture, lamps and lighting, paintings, pottery, sculpture and tapestry is brimming at all the locales. Michele Sommerlath’s sharp eye and design sense coupled with her expansive knowledge on the subject had made her one of Los Angeles’s premiere design resources. Michele Sommerlath also offers design services, staging and movie rental services and a “furniture finder”.
